Dear Wallace Family,
I want to report that RISD received the TAKS results late last week which allows the district to predict what each school's state accountability rating will be when officially released in August. Wallace is expected to receive the Recognized rating for the 2009-10 school year.
Although we are certainly disappointed that the rating will fall just short of the Exemplary rating , we know it does not truly identify the outstanding staff, quality instruction and student-focused culture that exists at Wallace. Wallace is an exemplary school in every way. The difference in the passing scores from last year to this year were minimal , however the commended rates (which indicate subject mastery) rose significantly , especially in the area of 3rd grade reading and math, 4th grade writing, and 5th grade reading. We recognize and celebrate the huge gains made by all students this year.
We want our community to realize that our students, staff, and parents have worked hard, not only to bridge achievement gaps for struggling students but also to differentiate the learning for students needing enrichment.
I am confident great things are in store for Wallace next year as RISD works to implement the district's new Vision and Mission. Our Instructional Leadership Team is already meeting regarding plans for next year so we can ensure the state's rating will align with the outstanding effort our students and teachers display on a daily basis. I am looking forward to continuing to work with our staff, parents and community to help prepare every Wallace student for their global future.
WE…as we partner together for all students… are on the track to exemplary in 2010-11!
Have a wonderful summer!
