MentorsVolunteer to help our kids by being a mentor. Do you have time during your day to come up and help some of our wonderful Wallace kids and teachers? If so, we would love to hear from you. Our mentoring program is designed to help children at Wallace who need a little extra support and attention. Volunteers are assigned a student in Kinder - 6th grade, and meet with that student once a week for 30 minutes outside of the classroom to listen to them read, and simply encourage them. This can be very powerful in the lives of some of our students who need extra support, attention, and kindness. If you are not able to commit to 30 minutes each week, that's OK too. You can meet your student early in the year and then send encouraging notes throughout the rest of the year. Even a small enouragement on test day, card on their birthday, a quarter for Popcorn Fridays, Jingle Bell or Val-Gram on those special spirit days can go a long way to let them know someone cares. If you are available to help please return the bottom portion of this letter and fill out a background check form with the district (the office can help you or it is on the district website). We hope to start in October! Please contact Lisette Layer at lisetta.layer@sbcglobal.net. Thank you for your consideration. Mentors Sign-up Form (PDF) |
