Traffic Duty
If you would like to jump on the schedule, sign up using the form below for the days you can help:
SETUP
- Arrive between 7:15 & 7:30 am. (No later than 7:30). Go into the building through the 6th Grade Doors. The shopping cart for Traffic and the 5th Grade Safety Patrol gear should be just outside the door. (If it is not, go to the office and tell them that you need it. It is in the custodian's closet in the 5th-6th grade wing)
- Bring the shopping cart with cones out to the edge of the driveway.
- For consistency, reference the diagram of cone placement to accomplish the following
- Set 3 large cones up at the corner. This will help keep people from turning left. (This is where you stand). Reference Traffic Pattern Diagram.
- Place the cones on the WHITE X’s in the street.
- Set 3 small cones up in the nearest Teacher Parking lot entrance.
- The 5th grade Safety Patrol will start coming around 7:30, and they will know where to go.
TAKE DOWN
- At 8:10, pick up the cones that you put out, and wheel the basket back up through the 6th grade door and into the custodian's closet in the 5th/6th grade wing.
- RECORD YOUR VOLUNTEER TIME! After taking the cart to the custodian's closet please stop by the office, enter your name, and record your time on the volunteer sheets.
YOUR JOB
- Wave and smile
- Be courteous when talking to drivers, even if they are not.
- Don’t allow cars to turn left into the driveway. Reference Traffic Pattern Diagram.
- Keep cars moving as much as possible (when cars start backing up on the right hand lane of driveway attempt to get cars to go on the left hand land)
- SCHOOL BUSES - School buses arrive around 7:30 to drop off children, or to take kids to Reach. If school office personnel are not present, you should help move cars out of the drive. Sometimes cars are waiting in the drive and they block the school buses' progress.
- INCLEMENT WEATHER - extremely bad weather may keep the Safety Patrol from doing crossing flags for the cross walk. Keep an eye over there to see if the teachers need some help. Place the cones, then assist.
