Volunteer Profile - Meet the Bowens

Wallace Elementary is blessed every year with a proactive team of parent volunteers working behind the scenes with our teachers and staff to help our school be the best it can be. We want to highlight these volunteers throughout the school year and this month we feature Tanya and Doug Bowen.

Tanya told us,"We LOVE Wallace! I mean absolutely love it! It was an area of definite discussion between us prior to our oldest son starting elementary school. I attended my small church school and Doug went to public school. There were pros and cons to both. We decided to give it a try and are so happy that we did. I can honestly say that we have been thrilled with all of our children's teachers. Our favorite thing about Wallace is the genuine caring--from the office staff to the cafeteria, the teachers and the principal...Everyone! In every grade the teachers work as a team and are professional, creative and talented to the point of constantly surprising us with their gift of inspiring children."

Doug is involved in the Dad's club, Career Day, Turkey Trot (He's Eeyore every year with Mr. Gomez as Tigger). Doug has coached some Wallace sports teams (Wolverine's T-ball, Pinkies Soccer and Falcon's Football...not to mention a few years of Hoops in the Highlands). "We also love to work Buddy Fun Day every year. It is so great to see the kids enjoying themselves and watching the teachers let loose and have fun (Ms Elliott at the balloon popping station...Ha!)."

Tanya serves multiple roles in the PTA including membership, room rep and her very favorite.....Historian! She told us, "I LOVE taking pictures at Wallace! Sooo fun! A few years ago I earned the nickname Mamarazzi when the 3rd grade team of teachers had a T-shirt made for me! I love it, I love them, I love the kids at Wallace. It brings me great joy! My other favorite responsibility is room mom. I tell you what, my friends, you get a serious perspective and appreciation for all that our teachers do for our children if you are present in the day-to-day. We are blessed to be here!"
